We Gave Up Safety for Freedom
Living in a Warzone
In the land of the free, the American dream is being tested by the nightmares of violence and fear. The pursuit of absolute freedoms has come under scrutiny as citizens grapple with a reality where safety seems to have been compromised. The image of a young child, barely tall enough to reach the bathroom sink, standing on a toilet to practice hiding from a potential school shooter, tells a story deeper than words ever could. This is not the free America many remember.
Historical Context The United States was built on a foundation of freedoms; yet, our history has been punctuated by periods where safety was threatened. We look back to understand how we've arrived at our present state, and what has been lost along the way.
The Present Climate
The frequency of active shooter incidents has brought about an unsettling norm in schools across the nation. Regular drills prepare children for the possibility of a shooting, an exercise once reserved for fire or tornado emergencies.
Freedom at What Cost?
With the Second Amendment held up as a bastion of personal liberty, we question the cost at which such freedom comes. The 'warzone' is no longer across oceans; it's in our backyards, our schools, and our communities.
Traumatizing Our Babies
The drills taught in schools are not mere routines; they're imprints on the psyche of our children. We're raising a generation for whom hyper-vigilance is a survival skill, not a choice. The consequences of this early trauma are only beginning to be understood, but experts warn they could be dire.
In a nation divided on gun control, there's a growing voice of concern from communities directly impacted by gun violence. This is not about taking sides on policy, but rather about ensuring the welfare of our children and our collective future.
We find ourselves at a crossroads, seeking lessons from societies that have struck a balance between freedom and the collective good. Is it possible to re-envision an America where the safety of its citizens, especially its children, is the cornerstone of freedom?
This conversation is about more than laws; it's about values. It's a call to action to create an environment where freedom does not come at the expense of our children's innocence and safety.
We must ask ourselves how we feel being a death cult nation?
Of course, the caveman wins.
